Lillian Bassman

Lillian Bassman worked as a fashion photographer for Junior Bazaar and later at Harper's Bazaar, where she promoted the careers of photographers such as Richard Avedon, Robert Frank, Louis Faurer and Arnold Newman. Under the guidance of the Russian emigrant Alexey Brodovitch, she began to photograph her model subjects primarily in black and white. Her work was published for the most part in Harper's Bazaar, between 1950-1965.

By the 1970s, Bassman's interest in pure form in her fashion photography was out of vogue. She turned to her own photo projects and abandoned fashion photography. In doing so, she tossed out 40 years of negatives and prints - her life's work. Over 20 years later, a forgotten bag filled with hundreds of images was discovered. Bassman’s fashion photographic work began to be re-appreciated in the 1990s.

available for freelancing, private art commissions, long-term contract. Could make for an interesting Teen cover.

From my reference folder

I keep a reference folder, as I'm sure a lot of you do, but I didn't make sure to keep the source, because it was just for me, but there are some good references, so if someone has a problem with posting images and not linking back, please let me know, and I'll take the image down.

Squirrel!

Melissa Brandts wasn't trying to take a photo of this ground squirrel at Banff National Park. She'd set up the camera's timer so that she'd have a nice picture of herself and her husband, with spectacular Lake Minnewanka in the background.

That just made my day.
